Although diet soda is not an ideal beverage, but it is definitely considered a better choice as compared to other regular soda. Mostly because it contains fewer calories, sugar or carbohydrates but unexpectedly it does contain some ingredients that make it a lot worse for your body, if consumed in large quantities. Here are some negative effects of drinking diet soda.

KIDNEY PROBLEMS
Did you know that drinking diet soda could give you kidney problems? Yes, according to a study conducted on more than 3000 women at Harvard Medical School showed that diet soda is associated with two-fold increased risk for kidney decline. The study reported that their kidney started declining when they consumed more than 2 sodas in a day. So, if you have been drinking a lot of diet soda lately thinking it is actually good, you are more likely to get kidney problems in future unless you reduce its consumption or completely stop drinking it.

MESSES UP YOUR METABOLISM
A University of Minnesota conducted a study on around 10,000 adults and highlighted another one of the major side effects of diet soda on your health. According to the study, drinking even just one diet soda puts you at 34 percent higher risk of metabolic syndrome along with increased risk of heart disease. However, what’s still unclear is whether this happens due to some specific ingredient in diet soda or is it associated with drinkers eating habits.

MAKES YOU OBESE
It may come as a surprise to you but it’s true that diet soda does not help lose weight. According to a study done by University of Texas Health Science Center, the more diet soda you consume, the more likely you are to become overweight. Drinking 2 or more cans of diet soda everyday can increase your waistline. Yes, that’s right, the artificial sweeteners present in diet soda can disrupt your body’s natural ability to regulate calorie intake. So, consumption of diet foods make you overeat and you don’t even realize it because you are being tricked into thinking that you are eating sugar, you crave more for it. So, obesity is another one of the common negative side effects of diet soda.
